Benjamin W. Fisher

Ben Fisher is an Assistant Professor of Criminal Justice at the University of Louisville. He received his Ph.D. in Community Research and Action at Vanderbilt University and has completed a doctoral minor in Quantitative Methods. His research primarily focuses on school safety, security, and discipline with particular attention given to students who may be especially vulnerable. In early 2017, Ben began work on three new projects funded through the National Institute of Justice's Comprehensive School Safety Initiative, including a role as Principal Investigator on a project titled School Climate, Student Discipline, and the Implementation of School Resource Officers. This project seeks to understand how implementing school resource officers in a single school district was associated with changes in student, teacher, and parent perceptions of school climate as well as student suspensions. Much of Ben's work seeks to inform policy and practice at a variety of levels, ranging from individual schools to state and federal departments of education.
